The Internet of things

Amazon Echo! positives and negatives for this but personally I wouldn’t get one because it listens to what you are talking about even when it’s switched off. This unsettles me, It may only be doing it to “help” you but this kind of technology could be abused if in the wrong hands. Where does this information go? Where is it stored? Who has access and listens to this?

Smart technology that is helping in certain categories;

Energy management;

Smart grid- energy consumption monitoring and management.

Photo-voltaic installations- monitoring and optimization of performance in solar energy plants.

Medical/Healthcare Systems;

Patient surveillance- monitoring of conditions of patients inside hospital and in old peoples home.

Building & Home automation;

Structural health- monitoring of vibrations and material conditions in buildings, bridges and historical monuments.

Transportation;

Smart Parking- monitoring of parking spaces availability in the city.

Traffic Congestion- monitoring of vehicles and pedestrian levels to optimize driving and walking routes.

Large Scale Development;

South Korea are in the process of wiring a smart city, a whole city to be connected, wired and turned into constant stream of data that would be monitored and analysed by an array of computers with little or no human.
